Tourism Actors Conference Spotlights Uganda’s Wildlife and Heritage for Global Competitiveness

The Tourism Actors Conference took place at the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC) as part of the 6th Bi-Annual Presidential CEO Forum Summit events sc.

The conference was held under the theme “Conservation as Capital: Positioning Uganda’s Wildlife and Heritage for Global Competitiveness.” Discussions centered on the need to strike a balance between conservation, sustainability, and economic returns from tourism.

The event attracted a wide range of participants, including senior officials, private sector representatives, and other tourism stakeholders. Among those in attendance were Mr. Charles Tumwesigye, who represented the Executive Director of the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), Hon. Godfrey Kabyaanga Baluku, State Minister of ICT, Mr. Vivian Lyazzi, Commissioner for Tourism Development at the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities (MTWA), and Mr. Musingo David, Acting Chief Executive Officer of UWEC. Tour guides, hotel owners, and industry players were also present.

Speakers at the conference highlighted Uganda’s rich wildlife and cultural heritage as critical assets that could drive economic growth if positioned effectively on the global tourism market. They emphasized that conservation should not be viewed as a limitation to development but as a valuable form of capital that underpins sustainable tourism.

The conference concluded with a call for stronger partnerships, supportive policies, and deliberate efforts to ensure Uganda’s natural and cultural heritage remained central to both sustainable development and global competitiveness.
